MA-tek Failure Analysis Conference

MA-tek founded in 2002, has successfully expanded to provide Failure Analysis (FA) and Reliability Testing (RT) services as well, which is superior integrated services for customers in various industrials. As the demand of failure analysis service increased, MA-tek held two conferences on Failure Analysis Technic in Hsin-chu few days ago. Due to MA-tek is the worldwide leading analytical lab in materials analysis (MA), the conferences attracted over 400 participants.

First, the CEO of MA-tek, Dr. Yong-Fen, Hsieh, introduced the technic of materials analysis, failure analysis, and reliability analysis testing. The technical team of MA-tek possesses the Quality Management and technical analysis experiences of IC, TFT-LCD, LCOS, etc. By technology segment, MA-tek provides 9 major service lines: Electrical Failure Analysis (EFA), Physical Failure Analysis (PFA), Structure Analysis, Surface Analysis, FIB Circuit Editing, Reliability Testing, Reverse Engineering of Benchmark Analysis, IP Consultancy, and Quality Management Training Course.

By industrial segment, about 50% customers of MA-tek comes from IC industry including Design Houses, Foundry Fabs, Packaging/ Testing Houses, TFT-LCD, OLED, MEMS, III-V, II-VI, LED, Laser diode, HBT, Materials Supplier (Si, GaAs, Sapphire Wafers, Glass, CF, PCB), Equipment Vendors, Solar Cell, RFID, Nano Materials, and Academic & Research Institutes.

Up to now, MA-tek has set up 5 laboratories and 1 sales office worldwide, providing around-the-clock services in logistic support and technical services, is the company certificated by both ISO 9001 and IECQ 17025, where dimension measurement of analytical data can be traced back to NIST Standard (National Institute of Standard and Technology). And is also the only lab in Taiwan awarded by IDB, Industrial Excellence Award in 2008.

MA-tek get over 6000 service cases each month, most cases finished in 24 hours. Customers are from all over the world, including Taiwan, China, Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia. Overseas business in America & Europe is arising rapidly, beneficial from fast turn around time and high quality contents.

In order to close to customers, MA-tek establishes service sites in Taiwan Hsin-chu Science-based Park (Prosperity lab, SoC lab, Jinshan lab), Jubei Tai-yuan Science Park (Jubei lab), Taipei Neihu Lab and Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-tech Park (Shanghai lab). Besides, MA-tek also establishes a sales office in Japan Osaka to provide local service.

The CTO of MA-tek, Dr. Chih-Hsun Chu, introduced the new failure analysis tools released in 2014. To fulfill leading edge technology requirements, MA-tek start to offer high resolution scanning acoustic microscopy (Sonoscan-SAT), thermal emission microscopy (Themos-Mini), and backside sample grinding (ASAP-1) services.

Sonoscan SAT (Gen6) is able to detect delamination (thickness 20nm or more), voids, and cracks in electronic products. Its digital image analyzer can justify the data and sort out acceptance or rejection of products per JEDEC and IPC standards.





Dr. Chih-Hsun Chu said these new tools are capable of testing various IC products, including samples with stacked die, PCB, 300mm wafers, and JEDEC trays. Its virtual rescanning mode allows comprehensive analysis of previous tested samples, even when samples are no longer available. Its resolution of voids and sample edges is better than conventional SAT tools.

Then, the Director of EFA Division, Mr. P S KUO, introduced some cases of failure analysis. He indicated that
MA-tek possesses good quality of both technical team and equipment to provide best service.

Accompanying with the fast growing pace of business development ,MA-tek expects to be the knowledge intensive and capital intensive RD Center for high tech industry, to provide the mandatory quality and reliability assurance labs in every industrial park, and to work as a medical center for newly designed products/process and low yield products.
